If/Then: All powers in Beginning of Days, Dawn and Dusk, and End of Days miracles require activation of previous tier’s Authorization Script power. Self-Regeneration Script does not work if Vera is completely disintegrated. Self-Resuscitation Script activates upon death. Self-Cleansing Script activates when Vera is contaminated with biological, viral, or other harmful foreign materials.

Pestilence Script and Related Scripts: The virus inflicts width in Shock and Killing damage after every 10 rounds. The victim may make an Endurance check each time to reduce damage by width. The virus is flushed out once the victim is dead, or when an Endurance check completely reduces the damage.

Horrifying: Damage Script and related powers cause victims’ body to necrotize, causing flesh to decay and fall off and eventually, causing bone to crumble. Healing Script, Regeneration Script, Resuscitation Script and related powers causes flesh to weave back together, muscles to reform, and broken bones to reset themselves(and convulsions in the case of Resuscitation Script). Disease Script and related powers cause black fluid to ooze from victims’ orifices, convulsions, broken blood vessels and veins, and slow necrotization. Cleansing Script and related powers lead to convulsions, steaming from orifices, and minute bleeding from pores. Damage Prevention Script prevents damage by coating the body with a non-Newtonian dilatant fluid, which is excreted from pores and major orifices.

Huo Feng - Outdated as of May 22, 2012

A young, disgraced monk who channels the powers of an ancient Chinese Eldritch being.

Name: Huo "Stranger" Feng

Age: 19
Nationality: Chinese
Race: Asian
Height: 5'8
Weight: 160
Appearance: Huo Feng is slightly taller than most males of rural China, and boasts a honed lean and muscular physique thanks to years of intense training and discipline. He usually keeps his head shaved, which reveals a prominent scar from a training “accident” that spans from the center of his forehead to the top of his head. Smooth faced because of his age, Feng is nevertheless sometimes mistaken for an older person because of his otherwise rugged facial geometry. After having been kidnapped and dumped in Liberty City, Huo Feng stashed away his monk robes for something more contemporary, if not more ragged. When exploring the labyrinth that is Little Asia, Feng prefers to wear a white tank top, worn-out jeans donated to him by the owner of the restaurant he works for, and a navy blue zip-up hoodie with double red stripes running down each arm. Because Feng often finds himself in fights with street thugs for some reason, he’s taken to wearing bandages around his hands and slight up past his elbow. If he’s expecting a bit more danger for the day, Huo Feng will leave his storage room of an apartment with a dao tied to his back with a scarf. Additionally, in situations where he’d rather keep his identity secret --- such as when he’s using his powers --- Feng wears a red and black steel mask with a fierce demonic visage over a black balaclava. Both the mask and dao were stolen from a dusty old antique shop. Because of such secrecy and the strange qualities of his powers, denizens from around Little Asia have began calling him “the Stranger.”

Bio: With both of his parents killed by a band of metahuman raiders who made a habit out of ransacking villages and farming communities, Huo Feng was orphaned at the young age of one. Due to living a life where one’s valuables and necessities could be taken from them at any moment, no one in this tiny village was willing to take upon themselves another burden. So, like many other orphans in this fairly secluded agricultural region of western China, Huo Feng was sent to the nearby mountains to live in a monastery. Curiously, like many of the “monasteries” that have sprung up due to the prevalence of metahumans and the increasing threat of a full-out war with the demonic planes, this particular one wasn’t so much dedicated to finding tranquility and dispensing knowledge needed to better oneself as it was an institution dedicated to finding, trapping, and killing demons or other nasties that plagued China. And who better to train than orphans and children sent willingly by their parents(better yet, the latter are usually metahumans, with parents who desire an “honorable, respectable path of life” for their children)? Huo Feng grew into a rather awkward individual since he was never properly socialized, having been raised in the monastery since he was an infant, unlike the other children who were usually inducted into this organization at a later age. Thus, without really learning how to express his emotions or to react to others --- the guidance of the monks were, for the most part, lacking --- he grew into a caustic, abrasive, and morally questionable teenager, hence the name given to him by the monks --- passionate as fire, and uninhibited as the wind. Then again, most of the children turned out similarly, with most having been either discarded by their parents for being metahuman(as opposed to being aborted, which is actually strange, considering most parents strive for a metahuman baby), discarded by their parents for not being metahuman(again, as opposed to being aborted) or lost their parents due to some other reason. Then there are the non-orphans, some of whom are non-superpowered and sent here against there will despite that(again, because it looks good for the family), or forced to receive implants, genetic retooling and the like at the expense of their parents’ wallet and then sent here against their will(because it looks good and the parents had the financial means), unless they were naturally gifted with powers, in which case they might not be the product of scientific meddling, but still, the end result is the same: induction into a demon-fighting monastic order. Regardless, the worrisome psychological profile of the teenage Huo Feng did not mix well with the competitive and ruthless social environment of the monastery. Being non-superpowered, Huo Feng was expected to stand out as a capable warrior with only mundane abilities; mainly, that of his body and mind. He did accomplish this, in part, having rigorously trained himself to nearly the peak of human physical ability, and is rather bright too, ranking at the top in relation to academics in the monastery. Despite all this, he was often eclipsed in impressiveness by the dozen or so metahumans of the monastery, one of whom he had a vitriolic relationship with due to constant antagonizing on the other’s part, who never failed to point out Feng’s lack of metahuman qualities. One fateful day, Huo Feng snuck into the prison chamber deep below the monastery that housed a guai --- named Nu Huo(Rage) by some cosmic coincidence --- the monks had captured for the purposes of interrogation. The demon was no generic mook, but a lieutenant(or the guai equivalent), and through his cunning he managed to gain freedom by offering the powerless Huo Feng a chance at extraordinary greatness. Immediately after Feng broke the glyph that held the demon, he was possessed, and Nu Huo began to heavily influence the boy’s every action from there on out, short of outright controlling him. Drawing confidence from his new demonic powers and the guai’s goading, Huo Feng called out his longtime enemy to the courtyard --- a teenaged boy with superhuman strength and agility --- as all the children gathered around them,  with half ridiculing Feng for his foolishness in challenging a super and half praising him for his daring. Then the day took a tragic turn as Huo Feng killed his rival on the spot. The crowd grew silent, and the monks that had arrived to disperse the children quickly realized what had just happened, as everyone watched the other boy drop to his knees, with a massive spectral fist where his head used to be. Quickly, Huo Feng was restrained and imprisoned --- the monks decreed that he would remain under the monastery for possibly the rest of his life, for killing him would simply set the demon free to possess another, and exorcisms could bring about unforeseen consequences. Weeks passed as Feng endured loneliness, guilt, and remorse --- he had not meant to do what he did, only meaning to beat the smug bastard to within an inch of his life --- when a globetrotting supervillain team caught wind of a demon-possessed boy who exhibited powers worth investigating. The attack took place during the night, and many of those who mounted the defense were slain. The intruders managed to carve their way into the prison and knocked out and bagged Huo Feng before fleeing into the night, back to their hideout in the United States. When Feng awoke, he was greeted by a fairly attractive woman, probably in her 30s, who carried herself about as if she were the ringleader of the group. She explained Feng’s situation in Mandarin, which surprised the boy, offering further understanding of his newfound powers and perhaps even more, under the condition that he work for her organization. Feng wasn’t fooled by her display of “generosity”, however, and it became increasingly clear that these characters were of the evil flavor --- their slaughter at the monastery didn’t help their image. Furthermore, Feng’s loyalties still laid with the monastery, which had provided him a home and some measure of companionship since his infancy. He held no ill feelings toward the monks for his justified imprisonment, much to the woman’s disappointment, who had been hoping to use his anger to persuade him. However, Huo Feng soon exhibited a different kind of rage --- a vengeful kind --- and fought his way out of the compound, leaving dead henchmen in his wake.  And then he ran. And ran and ran until he found himself in Liberty City. With nothing but the robes on his back, he wandered the streets for months as a vagrant until he found work as muscle for the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Little Asia, who paid him with food and board in the rear storage room. For three years, Feng would live here, working, occasionally fighting thugs in the back alleys, and constantly struggling to keep Nu Huo from stealing his body. Shortly after settling down in Little Asia, a confidential discussion with a most-likely-insane antiquarian informed him of the illegality of demonic possession in Liberty City, hence all the secrecy when Huo Feng goes about committing acts of vigilantism. The very same antiquarian has also taken to helping Huo Feng find inner peace and achieve self-discipline every day over cups of tea. The wizened old man won't take no for an answer, but Feng occasionally finds a way to skip out on these sessions. Besides, Huo Feng has decided to embrace his new power; why stifle something so... awesome?

Known Superhuman Abilities: Huo Feng’s abilities lie in his ability to channel the powers of the ancient demon inside him. These powers commonly manifest as multiple phantom arms floating in the air(The Demon’s Hands) --- in their ghostly sheen, you can somewhat make out the faces of what appears to be the tortured souls of some godforsaken underworld --- which he can generate a number of out of sheer will. To attack his enemies, Feng can launch these fists for an extremely lethal ranged assault(The Demon’s Fist). Additionally, he can use these arms defensively, such as blocking attacks by summoning arms to intercept them(The Demon’s Palm). Furthermore, the arms serve a variety of noncombat purposes, such as allowing Feng to manipulate multiple objects simultaneously or grabbing things from afar(The Demon’s Claw). Huo Feng’s less commonly observed abilities include a power that covers his body in intimidating, glowing ethereal armor(The Demon’s Body) --- which appears to be a multitude of arms and hands grabbing at his body --- and a power that spawns countless grotesque eyes embedded in his phantom arms, which allow him to see where his human eyes cannot(The Demon’s Eyes).

Through further experimentation, Huo Feng also discovered the ability to expel a projectile attack that can be best described as “plasma breath,” for lack of a better term(The Demon’s Greater Intervention). This fire-based attack is preceded by a shrill shrieking sound, and those watching with protective eyewear can make out faint outlines of human faces in the beam, leading experts to believe Feng’s power actually repurposes the souls of the dead into a highly destructive ranged weapon --- this would also explain the shrieking noise, which sounds eerily like a crowd of humans. Feng is also able to utilize this fire to protect himself --- he projects motes of fire that intercept attacks and burns the offenders(The Demon’s Lesser Intervention). Afterwards, the flame dissipates. Additionally, Feng has been seen using this power to propel himself through the air via jets of ethereal fire from his feet(The Demon’s Flight), and lighting up the immediate area in a manner not dissimilar to using multiple torches(The Demon’s Flame).

Dark Souls - Journal Entry 1

Day 1 of my journal

I'm not sure how I ended up here, and my memory is everything but intact. Just bits and pieces of nonsense about Monumentals and soul-starved kings from a distant kingdom float in my mind. With the gods as my witness, I can barely even recall my own name. Was it Gene or Eugene? Regardless, I am now writing in a journal with a piece of charcoal, both of which the guard tossed in here with me; presumably, they were amongst my belongings. As for why I'm writing this, I suppose I'm just keeping records I can review later so I can gauge how well I've got a grasp on reality. The prisoners outside constantly moan and shout, so I haven't been able to sleep, which can't possibly be helping my condition. Come to think of it, though, I haven't had a drink or a morsel of food for countless days and nights; I don't hunger for either. From what I can gather, the pitiable souls outside are here because they're undying. Now that I've had the opportunity to examine my own flesh under the scarce light that can barely slip into my cell, I think I've suffered a similar affliction. There's a tiny puddle of water opposite of me; I tend to avoid it, lest I accidentally steal a glance of my own, most likely hideous visage. So here I am, with only the clothes on my body, a journal, and a broken sword I suspected they gave to me because they thought it amusing.

=====

Interesting. Some fellow above tossed another prisoner into this pit with me, along with the keys to my cell; how nice of him. I suppose I shouldn't squander such acts of charity. Besides, it seems I can't die, so it can't hurt to attempt an escape.

Immune to Earth boons from those with lower Legend ratings, but Sky and Frost boons have a piercing quality. Due to the Undying template, the lion will resurrect after death, sometimes in a storage relic. At Legend 10, the creature acts as a Soul Jar, so that if the Scion takes a normally fatal attack, he does not die as long as the lion is alive. However, if both the lion and the Scion are both given lethal blows, they die unless the Scion has Ultimate Stamina or some other means of returning from death, at which point the creature is reborn alongside him.

*Knack Descriptions:*
Crushing Grip - Clinches now deal lethal damage, though the option to deal bashing damage or even no damage, is available.

Divine Wrath - Unarmed attacks now automatically deal lethal damage, though the option to deal bashing damage is still available, at a penalty. By spending 5 Legend Points, the Scion may deal aggravated damage by grappling, though the intention must be declared and the cost must be paid prior to rolling attack.

Lightning Sprinter - By spending 1 Legend Point, the Scion can sprint double the distance with the Dash action. Also, penalties for dashing through water or mud that come up to between ankle- to shoulder-height is negated, as long as the Scion began the Dash action on terrain without penalties, and the character continues to perform consecutive Dash actions.

Blurt it Out - By spending one Legend Point, the Scion can cause the target to blurt out an answer to his question truthfully, provided the target doesn't successfully make a (Integrity + Legend + Willpower) check against a difficulty equal to the Scion's Epic Manipulation + 1 --- upon success though, the target can spend a Willpower point to avert a slip of tongue.

Subliminal Warning - Gain extra dice equal to Epic Perception when rolling to detect an ambush.

Instant Investigator - By spending one Legend Point, the Scion is allowed a reflexive (Wits + Investigation) roll when surveying a crime scene. Upon success, the Scion can tell what crimes were committed, how many perpetrators were involved, how long ago it happened, roughly the sequence of events that took place, and what means the perpetrators employed to cover up the
crime.

Damage Conversion - Spend spending 1 Legend Point, the Scion can reflexively convert all Lethal damage into Bashing damage. However, an overload of Bashing damage will convert existing Bashing damage into Lethal.

Self Healing - For every Legend Point spent, the Scion can heal Bashing or Lethal damage equal to the amount spent, without leaving a scar.

Body Armor - Even when unarmed, the Scion can now parry close-combat lethal attacks. Also, by spending one Legend Point, the Scion can call out the ichor within him to cover his body, providing him Lethal and Bashing Soak equal to his legend, while bestowing a mobility penalty of -1. This armor lasts for one scene.

*Boon Descriptions:*
Judgement - When confronting another suspected of committing some sort of injustice, the Scion can make an uncontested (Empathy + Perception) roll to intuitively tell whether the suspect is guilty as charged.

Ward - By spending one Legend Point and one Willpower, the Scion can place a ward on an entrance against a certain type of threat. The ward acts as a sphere of circumference equal to 500 square feet per dot of Legend. The duration of the ward equals number of successes garnered by a (Stamina + Fortitude) roll. The Scion can stack wards, but each one requires its own activation roll and cost. The ward can take a number of health levels of damage equal to the Scion's Legend x 5 and the number of activation successes, and it has a Hardness rating equal to the Scion's Legend.

Five Cycle Augmentation - By spending 1 Legend, the Scion can enhance another character who is using a Boon or spell. By doing this, the recipient's Legend when using the Boon or spell is treated as one higher than the actual value, so that a dice pool that included Legend would gain 1 die, and Legend would be one higher for purposes of Boons whose effectiveness depends on the attacker's Legend being equal or higher than his target's. Five Cycle Augmentation can also be chained, so that a single person can benefit from a Legend boost from all participants. However, this boost cannot exceed the highest Legend of any participants, and cannot boost one's effective Legend past 12. So, for example, if four Scions used Five Cycle Augmentation in a series on a fifth person, and all participants had a Legend of 2, the final recipient Legend could not rise above 4.

Yin-Yang Destruction - By spending 1 Legend, the Scion can negate another's Boon or spell. If the Scion has a tick free to engage in a Guard action, he can roll (Legend + Occult or Science). With enough successes, the Scion negates the effect of a Boon or spell on him. If the Scion knows any Boons from the Purview that was used against him, the difficulty is equal to the attacker's Legend. If not, the difficulty is twice the attacker's Legend. Alternatively, Yin-Yang Destruction can be used at range to counter a Boon or spell that isn't specifically directed at the Scion. By spending 1 Willpower in addition to the initial Legend cost, and having a tick free for a Miscellaneous action instead of the Guard action, the Scion can negate the Boon or spell should the use of the Boon or spell be perceivable.

Exp: 4

History:

Misc. Descriptions:

Yu has a rather built physique, honed from his days as a Triad Lord's enforcer, and is rather tall for a Chinese man at 5 feet 10 inches. His skin shows off a healthy tan, gained from his days working on a cargo ship. His hair is usually kept neatly trimmed and professionally slicked back; to complement this, he keeps a trimmed mustache and goatee combo, though this gets slightly messier when he's focused on a case. Since his Visitation, his dark eyes have been peppered with extremely tiny, almost iridescent flecks of gold. Most of the time, he wears the black duster bestowed upon him by his divine father, over a v-neck shirt or thermal with a pair of khaki pleated slacks, a rather plain leather belt, and a pair of either black wingtips or combat boots. Sometimes, though, he likes to indulge in a bit of overtly American culture by donning a pair of brown leather cowboy boots. However, when he wants to dress more professionally, he substitutes with a dress shirt, tie, and tie clip combo with wingtips. Regardless of whether he dresses casually or formally, Yu rarely goes out without a shoulder holster and his _Shi Zi Qiang_, a relic .44 Colt Anaconda. Rather fond of Western culture, and particularly that of America's, he has a taste for delicious "gourmet" hamburgers and even simple fast food fare, along with Western alcohol as opposed to more Eastern brews. Usually, Yu keeps a cigar with him, if not a carton of cigarettes. Of course, he carries a flask given to him by his mentor(another detective), which contains either whiskey or other brown liquors and is rarely left empty.
